The goal of the ICCC is to carry out research in the cardiovascular area

The ICCC aim's is to carry out research in the cardiovascular and heart disease area, with a high degree of international proficiency, providing it with the infrastructure required for basic research to be easily transferred to therapeutic and diagnostic developments and to lead to an improvement in health care practice.

Scientific activity

The ICCC's scientific activity can be differentiated between basic and applied research. The basic research will be focused on the identification of genes that govern how vascular and cardiac cells work, gene therapy, cell investigation and interaction, genetic abnormalities in cardiovascular pathologies, genomics and proteomics in the cardiovascular area.

In applied research, its main focus is on research into new therapeutic targets, the design of drugs aimed at providing cardiovascular protection, pre-clinical and clinical trials of drugs under development for therapeutic targets, as well as on new applications and pre-clinical and clinical research into prognostic and diagnostic indicators of disease.

Scientific activity began in 2004.

The Center's specific objectives are as follows:

  • Research and development regarding cardiovascular specialties.
  • To contribute to the development of new therapeutic strategies or the improvement of existing strategies.
  • To contribute to an improvement in the prevention and diagnosis of cardiovascular disease.
  • To develop programs that improve health care in this area.
  • The advanced training of researchers in the cardiovascular area and the promulgation of knowledge in cardiovascular science.
  • Any other goal related to research in the cardiovascular area.
