Maribel Baldellou is the head of the Microdissection Department of the Cardiovascular Research Centre, created by association of the Spanish National Research Center (CSIC) and the Catalan Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences (ICCC). She collaborates with Prof. L. Badimon from August 2000 and is part of the REDINSCOR net of Molecular basis of cardiac insufficiency.

Her scientific work is multidisciplinary and started in October 1981 at the Institut de Química Bio-Orgànica (CSIC) where she did her Master's Degree in Biology (UB) and worked in the area of animal physiology with Dr. X. Belles. Her PhD degree was carried out at the University of Natal (South Africa) supervised by Dr. P. Henzi, about the effects of ecological and social factors on vervet monkey behaviour, especially on dominance and submissive behaviours. As a post-doctoral fellow from the CIRIT, she developed a study on sequential analysis of behaviour and proximity relationships. This background allowed her to analyze the issue of non-verbal human communication from an integrated approach, which was presented in various courses and seminars.

For the last 3 years she has focussed on maximizing the rates of RNA retrieval, quality and downstream applications from microdissected samples.
